Samuel S. Fels Fund

Funding Guidelines

The ideal proposal to Fels Fund is one that addresses positive social change in one or more of Fels Fund’s areas of focus and works at a policy or grassroots level, involving the community members it seeks to assist.  Both general operating and project-specific requests will be considered.

Who is eligible?
Please note: the Fels Fund accepts requests only from organizations that are designated tax-exempt 501(c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Code.  In certain cases, the Fels Fund will also accept requests from organizations that have a not-for-profit mission who have a fiscal sponsor or national office.  Ordinarily, the Fels Fund does not make grants for major programs of large institutions, capital and equipment, endowment and the routine or direct services of social service agencies. Individual daycare, after school programs and computer centers cannot be accommodated.  Organizations that have previously received a grant from Fels Fund must submit a complete final report before reapplying. For more information visit the Funding Priorities page.

Do you think your organization might qualify?
Complete and submit this brief funding inquiry.  This way, you can get relatively fast feedback on your idea for a proposal without having to put precious resources into developing a proposal. Funding inquiries are accepted on a rolling basis. Fels Fund only accepts one funding inquiry from an organization at a time. Within a month of receiving your completed form, we will let you know whether you are invited to submit a full proposal for funding.  If so, you will be given the link to Fels Fund’s online application.  The application will include sections for a narrative, and will require uploads of your organization’s budget, past audited financial statements and governance information.  Please note that an invitation to submit a full proposal does not guarantee funding.  For more information visit the How to Apply? page.

What if your organization is declined?
Organizations whose proposals have been declined must wait at least one year before submitting another proposal. If you have a question about the application process, email Shanell Ransom or call (215) 731-9455.
